Frequently Asked Questions

Loc extensions?

I do offer Loc extension services.  We will need to have a consultation, virtually (Facetime, Duo, etc) or in person to devise a plan and determine the estimated cost.  Cost will be determined by length, desired loc size, and number of locs.

20% down payment is required at least one month prior to your desired appointment.

First Time Clients, consultation required

Scheduling a consultation is required either in person or virtually for $15 for consults.   This non-refundable amount will be applied toward your scheduled service.

Starter locs range from $85-225 depending on the length and thickness of hair and desired loc size.

Difference in locs

  •  Traditional locs are locs done in the โ€œtraditionalโ€ techniques that weโ€™ve passed among ourselves in the African diaspora. Typically traditional locs have anywhere between 70-150 sections and are maintained with twists (or more recently, interlocking). Some people have fewer (larger) traditional locs than the range I provided, and others have more (smaller) traditional locs. But in general, they are considered โ€œnormalโ€ in size and can almost always be safely maintained with palm rolling.

***Please note that I do not perform the below services:

  • Microlocks are locks smaller in size than most traditional locs. I would say any set of locs with more than 250 sections qualifies for this label. They can be started and maintained with any method. (Most commonly started using two strand twists or braids)

  • Interlocks are locks started and maintained with the interlocking method. They can be micro-sized or traditional-sized.

  • Sisterlocksยฎ is the registered trademark name for a corporation that focuses on locked natural hair management courses. The focus of these classes are unpatented micro-interlocks called โ€œSisterlocksโ€ that use a brand-specific grid pattern, as well as a formalized system of interlocking patterns for various use cases. According to brand consultants, Sisterlocks must be established and maintained by a Sisterlocks consultant, or maintained by the wearer herself if she has taken an official Sisterlocks Self-Retightening Class. The person caring for the locs must use one of Sisterlocksโ€™ two styles of tools, neither of which are patented.

  • Micro-Sisterlocks are smaller than the recommended size for Sisterlocks, while using roughly the same grid guidelines. Sisterlocks Home Office discourages micro-Sisterlocks establishments, as they are too fragile and too time consuming to be considered widely sustainable.

  • Brotherlocksโ„ข is an unregistered trademark associated with the Sisterlocks brand, which is designed for men. Brotherlocks use a different sizing system and grid pattern than Sisterlocks, so the difference isnโ€™t just the gender of the wearer.
